If You Try Sometimes, You Just Might Find, You Get What You Need

Hi Reader,

Full disclosure, I’ve never been much of a Rolling Stones fan.

However, as I was contemplating the truth of the experience of human existence...

And the role Human Design plays within that...

These lyrics floated into my awareness.

What they're pointing to is how the Human Design Bodygraph illustrates why we put so much effort into getting what we want...

And often, don't clearly understand what it is we need.

You see, the "what you want" can be found in all of the whiteness in your chart.

It's your Openness, and these traits, characteristics, and gifts are inconsistent and unreliable in your design.

And, any gates you have that are activated but dormant will also be expressed inconsistently and unreliably.

And this lack of consistency... or even trustworthiness...

In your design, in yourself...

Can lead to frustration, disappointment, bitterness, and even anger.

Now, it's natural to WANT to rely on these traits .

You want to be able to consistently and reliably behave in ways that meet expectations.

These are expectations of others, the world in general, and even you.

For Example

If you have Gate 53, located in the Root Center, you'll find it easy to start things.

However, if you lack the harmonic Gate 42, you're not actually designed to finish everything you start.

Cue the judgment and frustration.

"Why can't you finish what you've started?"

"You just need to be disciplined and put some willpower into it."

"You shouldn't start something unless you know you can finish it."

"Suck it up and push through; you've got to get this done."

These are familiar and deeply embedded cultural ideas.

And, it's exceedingly rare to find anyone who will celebrate you for starting but not finishing.

In fact, are you saying to yourself right now that it's never okay to start something unless you plan to finish it?

Then, there's the added confusion of those times when you do have the energy to complete something.

Because occasionally the transits, your life cycles, and other people may loan you the energy of Gate 42.

During those moments, you'll believe that this is how you really are.

Something clicks into place and the energy is there for you to finish that project you started.

You'll likely come up with a mental list of reasons for why it worked and how you can duplicate it the next time.

Only none of those reasons will be the truth.

So unfortunately, when it recedes, as it will, you're left wondering why you're so unreliable.

Why couldn't you duplicate that experience of finishing what you started?

You'll mistakenly judge or blame yourself for your lack of consistency and reliability...

Rather than understanding the truth of your design and how you're perfectly meant to be.

And so, you're experiencing the first line of the lyric...

"You can't always get what you want..."

However, the truth is, you're not unreliable...

Your ability to express this trait is unreliable.

And so no matter how intensely you want it to be consistent in you...

It will never be.

Fortunately, you can liberate yourself from the unsatisfying wanting...

And the judging...

And the feelings of failure...

By seeing what is available to you, consistently and reliably.

And this is where the second half of this lyric comes in.

"But if you try sometimes, you just might find you get what you need…"

The song tells the story about the pain of chasing what your mind tells you that you want...

And all the while, what you need, that which will sustain you...

Is waiting there, right in front of you.

The "what you need" is represented by the colored shapes and lines in your chart.

These are Defined traits and strengths.

And so "if you try sometimes…" to see the traits, gifts, and characteristics in your design that are consistent and reliable...

You'll always "get what you need."

Over time and with enough experimentation, the "what you need" will become the "what you want."

Because you’ll begin to appreciate the vitality and happiness that seeing and accepting your True Self brings to you.
